About us

The Triangle is London's oldest on site adventure playground. Open since 1957 we provide free adventure play to young people aged 6 - 17 years old. Our aim is to improve young people's physical, mental and emotional wellbeing through creative and free play. Generations of Lambeth families have played at Triangle and we currently have over 450 active users of the playground. Throughout the holidays we arrange hot cooked meals alongside the wide range of play and non formal learning activities. We help young people build independence, resourcefulness and self confidence, offering long term support for all from childhood to becoming young adults.

Triangle Capital Renovations 2022/2023

#The Triangle, London's oldest and some say greatest adventure playground is renovating and refurbishing our range of giant play structures, play hut and electrical supply.

From Autumn 2022 to July 2023 we will be enacting the following:

i) Install Three Phase Electricity & Light up the play!
Our current supply is limited in power and we can only use a certain amount without exceeding the capacity. UK Power Network will bring power to our site and then a commercial electrician will install a new meter, rewire our hut along, add new outdoor lighting and sockets.
Cost £20k

ii) A new Zip Line for all
London Play Design team are working on a brand new zip line for us. Our previous zip has reached the end of it's life after 15 years of fun. A new zip line is crucial to our play sessions and this one will also incorporate additional play elements, including den space and fireman poles.
Cost £23k

iii) The Triangle Treetop Walkway
The Triangle covers an area of just 0.14 Hectares or 1,370 square metres. Our three sided site is enclosed by a primary school, secondary school and buffer zone with neighbouring houses, and so we have no scope for expansion on any side. Therefore the only way is UP!

After careful consultation with the children we have decided upon a 30m long, 4.5m high, treetop walkway through the trees connecting to the top of our treehouse. The walkway will offer a unique and impactful set of play, learning and health opportunities.

The vast majority of young people who attend Triangle live in social housing within Lambeth, very few have independent access to safe, green surroundings that they can call their own. The treetop walkway gives hundreds of young people direct exposure to nature amongst the clean air and large foliage of our protected trees, as means to support and improve their mental and physical health.
Cost £25k ( £5k secured )

iv) A new kitchen and hut repairs
Feeding c. 40 young people per day in the holidays means our rudimental kitchen has had a busy few years and is no longer up to scratch. We are planning a full refit to modernise our kitchen that will allow us to resume our much loved cooking skills sessions and also allow community use. The new kitchen will require renovations and repairs made to our hut too.
Cost £12k

Total Cost - £80k

Last year 376 young people made a total of 8603 visits, of whom 10% have Special Educational Needs and 60% declare Free School Meals, rising to 75% in school holidays. Averaging 50 young people a day we are on course for more than 400 users this year.

Whilst we apply for capital grants to cover the majority of these costs we seek businesses and companies to help us reach our fund target of £25k.

Please spread the word to your family and friends, work colleagues and business contacts, it is not every day you can make a tangible and impactful donation to the lives of so many young Londoners, THANK YOU!
