About us
HIAS+JCORE works to engage the Jewish Community in social action and social justice in the wider society, focusing on race equality and justice for refugees and asylum seekers. Our work draws on Jewish refugee experience, teaching and tradition of Jewish social activism.
Yiddish Cafe at the Tsitsis Fringe festival
Event date: Sunday 17th October 2021
Many Yiddish poems and prose writings speak of the experience of escaping from oppressive and dangerous situations, trying to find refuge and peace in another land. We feel for the Afghani refugees as refugees and immigrants ourselves. And, as citizens of countries involved in the unfolding crisis, people who helped our countries who are now fleeing because of that connection, we perhaps feel even more keenly for the people now arriving here. We say that they are welcome, and that they will find support and refuge here.
This is our second event collecting tzedake for Afghan refugees via JCORE, the Jewish Council for Racial Equality.
