In April I’m going to take on my first (and quite possibly last) marathon – 26.2 miles trying to concentrate on London and the crowds of cheery, comfortable faces rather than my crumbling legs.

I have a naïve expectancy to get some enjoyment out of the training leading up to the event, at least partly because I’ve always gained a great amount of pleasure and sometimes release through partaking in sport.

The Lord’s Taverners, my chosen charity, seek to give the same opportunity to those a lot less fortunate than me. To break down barriers and empower disadvantaged and disabled young people to not just participate, meet and socialise with friends, but also improve health, mental wellbeing and future prospects.

Thank you to those that have already donated for my postponed attempt in October. My optimism has dropped significantly, but this time I’ll pass the start line and get around one way or another!
