Bob Crosby - Ride Of Steel 2019

Event date: 19th July 2019

Bob Crosby is raising money for Armed Forces Para-Snowsport Team

My story

Leonardo in the UK has for the past nine years, been an active sponsor and supporter of the work undertaken by the Armed Forces Para-Snowsport Team (AFPST), and the achievement of its members. This year, it is proposing to undertake an event across all of its UK sites, that supports and raises money for the AFPST, taking the opportunity to coincide with the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games trials in Sheffield.

The event will involve employees of Leonardo and some of its partner or supplier organisations, cycling from each of the Leonardo sites in Edinburgh, Basildon, Lincoln, Farnham, Luton, Southampton, Bristol and Yeovil, over a period of three days, to arrive in Sheffield in time for the opening ceremony of the Invictus trials.

From Leonardo Helicopters site in Yeovil, twenty riders will leave at midday on Friday 19th July, and after cycling a total of 232 miles, arrive at Sheffield at midday on Monday 22nd, in time for the opening ceremony that evening.

The AFPST provide a fantastic opportunity for its members to regain their spirit of challenge and competition, providing a significant contribution to their freedom, rehabilitation and transformation after what for many, are life changing injuries.

It is our privilege to support the men and women of the AFPST, and on this occasion, raise their profile, alongside that of their fellow servicemen and women, who will compete for places in the Invictus games.

The Invictus Games is an International adaptive multi-sport event, created by HRH Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, in which wounded, injured or sick members of the Armed Services and their associated veterans, take part in a wide range of summer sporting events. The AFPST, is a Services charity that exists to accelerate the recovery of wounded, injured or sick military personnel and veterans, through the medium of winter sports. The Chief Executive of the AFPST is the Deputy Chairman of the UK Invictus Trials which are taking place at Sheffield, in July 2019.
