Connie's 50km Thames Path Challenge For The Awesome South London Cares

Event date: 12th September 2015

Connie Kerali is raising money for South London Cares Limited

My story

So why did I trek 50km along the Thames I hear you ask?! And who are South London Cares? Well let me start by answering the first question. Over the last 8 years of working as a Doctor I've been privileged to meet the most amazing people. One such memory is that of an elderly gentleman who I saw in A&E with a suspected mini-stroke. After asking him the standard questions about whether he'd experienced any facial or limb weakness, my next question brought a response that almost had me in tears. I asked him if he'd noticed whether his speech had been slurred and he told me that he couldn't answer that question as he had no one at home to talk to. That moment has stuck with me for years and is why I believe South London Cares is such an amazing charity. No person should be so isolated within their community and South London Cares is doing an amazing job at tackling loneliness amongst the elderly by building community links between young professionals and their elderly neighbours. By giving whatever you can to support my 50km walk along the Thames, you'll be contributing towards a film night, a cooking club or one of a number of social events held by South London Cares. Thank you in advance for all of your support :)

UPDATE: Just to clarify I walked ALONG the Thames not ACROSS it. I'm not that amazing!!!
