Our story

Kathryn, Lesley and Melanie have enrolled with to complete this challenge. With your support and sponsorship donations we will raise much needed funds for First Person Plural - dissociative identity disorder association. Our challenge is to run and/or walk, mostly in our own local areas (and in Kathryn's case - mostly at home on a treadmill) to complete a distance of 874 miles each, (i.e. the length of the UK mainland from Lands End to John O'Groats), over a period of up to 1 year. This will be no small feat for us as none of us have attempted this kind of challenge before, but we are determined. During the COVID-19 crisis First Person Plural has already lost a significant portion of our regular income because we have been unable to do face to face training. Being both a micro-charity and national makes it difficult for us to access external funding which is largely geared towards either small charities providing services in a defined local area or large national charities. The money we raise by taking up this challenge will help ensure FPP is able to continue its work. This includes facilitating mutual support for adult survivors of childhood abuse who live with complex trauma-related dissociative conditions, such as dissociative identity disorder; and providing information, training and experts-by-experience collaboration to improve acceptance, recognition, diagnosis and access to effective treatments for this group of people.

Thank you for checking out our page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto First Person Plural.

Our updates

Thank you all you wonderful people who have donated. We're more than half way to our target.

And less than a quarter of the way into our virtual journey to John O'Groats. But I think you'll allow us a small celebration as after less than 2 months all three of us have passed the landmark 200 miles. 674 or so for each of us to go now. Wish these updates would let us upload pics.... you could have all seen our dedication this past week... getting soaked walking in, what I promise you, was not virtual rain

We are now over four weeks into our challenge. Roll the drums and fanfare the trumpets... two of the three of us have passed the 100 mile mark, getting our landmark postcard from the challenge organisers; and the remaining one is very close to getting her postcard.. So.... just 774 miles left. We are all in virtual Devon. Thank you to all donors. Not only are your donations very important for FPP, but they are motivating each of us in our challenge.

Into our third week and Lesley has reached 66 miles. She knows that because she is the first of us to be sent a virtual postcard from the organisers of LEJOG. So, big congratulations to Lesley. You are doing great!!!!!

So, our first week completed! How are we doing? Well, excited to say that between us we have totalled almost 50 miles. To our dismay, checking the virtual map we find that this shared distance places us on an urban bypass in Cornwall. I, for one, far prefer my actual view of my beautiful local canalside, complete with mother duck and ducklings, on my latest walk.

At the end of this second day of our challenge, the spotlight is on Lesley (she won't like me saying that ??). In these first two days this lovely lady has complete 9 miles. ?? She's ever so slightly ahead of me (Kathryn) but we are both waiting for Melanie to catch up (only because she's not started counting yet). Come on everyone, cheer her on. ??
