My story

I rarely walk too far, but the dogs need our help, so I am dusting off very old trainers and getting ready to walk my 20k - although over a few days probably. Please donate and help Paws2Rescue to build a desperately needed sanctuary in Romania. The lives of strays are so heartbreakingly lonely and dangerous, the dogs in kill shelters are totally broken, and Paws2Rescue need to keep helping them. Please donate a tiny amount to spur me on to my 20k and to help Paws2Rescue build a safer future. Thank you.

Walk 6: Monday 12th April. The shops are opennnn!!!! I woke up so early in excitement as it meant getting my nails done after 14 months woohoo! When I looked out the window and saw it was snowing, I could wait no longer. Wrapping up very warm, I went for a walk alone. With hours before nail bar opening time at 9.30am, I just wandered around streets and parks and walked around what felt like most of Sutton! My walk actually ended at 9am conveniently at Caffe Nero who even had the shades and tables out to welcome me! Feeling it would be wrong not to support businesses re opening, I sat there in the snow and checked my phone. I was elated to have walked 9km - absolutely over the moon. Followed by stunning nails in the nail bar it felt fantastic to have a tiny bit of "me" time this morning. I have walked 39km in 11 days now and actually cannot believe that I have done this. I am working the rest of the week so no more walks until the weekend and a tiny rest for me in the week apart from the usual daily dog walking. A massive thank you to everyone who is so kindly donating, it means everything.

Walk 5: Sunday 11th April. I took advantage of the last traffic free M25 Sunday and drove early to my mum's house ready for walk 5. She had planned a lovely route and we set off. It wasn't quite so lovely when we got lost though, and I knew we had walked further than our usual 5km when my feet didn't want to move any more. We went back to the house through the woods I used to play in when I was younger. I wanted to see if the man at the swamp still lived there - and admitted to my mum that we used to go to the woods (and the swamp!) when she thought we were in the park that led to the woods. A lovely walk in the fresh cold air, very tiring though. A well earned coffee at the end of my first 8km. I also had to drink a glass of water as i was told too! Excited to have walked 30km now in 10 days but still not convinced I won't jump back in my car once I have done the 100km. Please please keep sponsoring me, this sanctuary is so desperately needed and walking 100km is a massive deal for me. Thank you all.

Oops missed my last week's update - I walked again Monday 5th April!!! Back in Ruislip with my mum and a lovely walk early in the morning with snow flurrying around us! It made for a brisk walk down the alleyways and down to South Ruislip. Past one of my old favourite pubs, with cobwebs on the doors, my step brightened as I realised that the pubs would be opened soon. We did a lovely long walk and headed back home. I must admit this week I have been at work, so have only done 3km lunch time walks as I can't fit any more into an hour. I am only counting single walks of 5km so of course these were practice for me. Hoping it won't rain too much this weekend, so I can get my trainers out once again! A massive thank you to everyone who is donating, this really is a fantastic cause and a legacy to hundreds if not thousands of dogs in Romania - it really is a lifesaver.

Walk 2: Sunday 4th April, Easter day and my daughter's 17th birthday. Alas I could not persuade her to join me today, so I took my largest dog and off we set. Today was a local day in Sutton, and we walked almost in a straight line all the way to the top of Sutton. What do you know? Caffe Nero was open! It would have been rude not to pop in and get Mabel a cup of water, so I obliged and gave her a 5 minute rest. I was surprised and sad to see so many chope open, so I walked back a different way. Through Manor Park, and then I decided to walk down every alleyway we could find. I loved the solitude and silence, and we zig zagged our way back to the house. We had walked 6km and I was over the moon! I am also very surprised that building a sanctuary for the dogs which is so desperately needed, really has spurred me on so much. I cannot walk during the working week for my challenge as I am desk bound apart from a quick lunch break, so days like today are precious to me. I would say that I burned calories off today - only there are Easter eggs to be eaten at home - and birthday cake too! Planning Walk 3 already. Thank you for your support, it really means the world to me.

2nd April. So last night I managed to upload an app on my phone (which in itself deserves a donation!) all ready for my first walk today. I drove over to my mum's house and after a few swigs of... coffee... I was ready to go. We did a walk around memory lane. Past my old school, around the park I used to do all sorts of things in when I was younger. We walked down a long alleyway and she told me off as I peeped through fences into beautiful gardens. We walked past the local post office with a crochet knitted hat. Before I knew it, we had walked 5km! It actually didn't feel so far after all! I had earned a well deserved hot cross bun and coffee. I then went on to help her with her garden, and wished I had tied the phone to my arm as I used a saw to help cut a bush/tree from her garden. A busy day at kennels for me tomorrow, but I am actually looking forward to my next 5km walk. The dogs in Romania so desperately need a sanctuary, I am walking for them. Please donate the price of a coffee and hot cross bun, and help them too.
