Jan G is raising money for Silver Star Diabetes
I ran the London Marathon on 26/4/15 to support Silver Star Diabetes to raise awareness of diabetes. This was my first marathon and I am delighted with my time of 4:52:34.
My hubby Sean has type 2 diabetes and has recently undergone emergency foot surgery twice following what started as a simple blister. In the course of his treatment we met patients with full and partial amputations arising from diabetic complications. It was a salutary experience for us both.
I ran to raise funds for Silver Star Diabetes to operate a 3rd Mobile Diabetes Unit - vehicles which visit workplaces and community locations to test people for diabetes so that more people will know if they are living with the condition and can do more to manage it.
I chose to support Silver Star Diabetes because their focus on minimal administration overheads means that more of your donation and my sponsorship goes straight into their work - so more people will know sooner if they are living with the risks of diabetes.
I trained 6 days per week from Nov '14 to April 26th '15 to develop the strength and fitness I needed for this marathon. My family, friends and supporters have been amazing...from running alongside me in training runs at 6am on icy Saturday mornings, to thinking of new ways to make my training interesting and more effective, to making cake to keep me going, I am very lucky and very grateful.
I'd like to thank them for their support and you for visiting my everyclick page and for any donation you can make.
Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto Silver Star Diabetes.
