Emily Moffat is raising money for Àban
Thank you for taking the time to visit my Give as you Live donation page!
On Saturday 25th June and to kick start my 2022 OW swimming season, I will be taking on the historic Kessock Ferry Swim. It’s the first time in over 50 years this event is being held, and will follow the classic route across the stretch of exposed tidal water from South to North Kessock and back again (approximately 1200m).
I have driven over the Kessock Bridge / Beauly Firth more times than I can even remember - swimming it will be completely different kettle of fish to my three loch swims later in the year, and a personal challenge (I have never swam a stretch of tidal water like this before!). I also hope that by taking this on, it encourages others to take the plunge (literal or otherwise) to get outdoors, connect, and appreciate the beauty & benefits of nature – especially when it’s on our very doorstep!
The charities:
This historic community event has been re-launched by community outdoor education charity, Àban (SC05143). Àban deliver community outdoor programmes throughout Inverness, with every penny raised going back into supporting charity work within the area to offer positive outdoor adventures for children & families in need. To learn more about Àban, please visit: aban.scot/about
This year, Àban have adopted an official charity partner in the Friends of Merkinch Local Nature Reserve (SC037131), and will be sharing 25% of all sponsorship funds from the Kessock Ferry Swim 2022 with them.
The Merkinch nature reserve is located in an area of Inverness that is the eighth most deprived area in Scotland. The Friends of Merkinch Local Nature Reserve believe that everyone deserves access to a green space where they and nature can thrive, and work with local people to improve their lives; both by improving skills with volunteering, but also by being part of the community.
Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto Àban.

KESSOCK FERRY 2022 ✅
A very early start & rather choppy conditions on the way back made for a wee bit more of a challenge, but a beautiful morning for my first swim event of the year and amazing to participate in the first Kessock Ferry swim in 50 years! ☀️
It was estimated as 1,200m there & back. There have been recorded distances varying from 1,400m to 2,000m. My Apple Watch was useless at keeping distance, but looking at my maps versus some others, I was probably somewhere between 1,500-1,600m. Time 39:54, which is a little slower than I’d hope for, but understandable given the extra distance, difficulty sighting while battling the waves & how much I overcorrected! (Note to self: work on sighting 😆). I believe that’s still an OW PB for me though and, most importantly, I made it there & back in open tidal water - which is all I was really aiming for!
Thank you to the clan - Debbie, Ali & Devs - for dragging themselves out of bed at such an ungodly hour for a Saturday morning, and coming along to cheer me on from the shore!
And massive thank you to everyone who has sponsored me - not only did you make this extra swim this year possible, we’ve smashed my fundraising target and supported two wonderful & well-deserving causes! 💛
(And as an absolute bonus, an extremely flattering photo of my bright red, exhausted face was featured on the front of the BBC Scotland News article 😅 #model #fitnessinfluencer)

Morning pool swim
Felt a bit slow - but maybe not! Would have probably managed another 200-500m if some slow coaches hadn’t joined the lane towards the end 😅
