Lil Red Rockin Hood's 26 mile Roller Marathon (Goodwood) for MIND
Event date: 14th August 2011
Lil Red is raising money for Herts Mind Network
My story
When i'm not doing my 9-5 day job, i'm a roller derby girl, aka Lil' Red Rockin' Hood, #1956. I've been skating since I was old enough to get my tootsies into the glorious Fisher Price skates and I now skate for a roller derby team based in Hertforshire called the Hells Belles Roller Girls.
Every year, a charity Roller Marathon takes place around the historic Goodwood Motor Circuit. (check out goodwoodmarathon.co.uk) Skaters of all abilities and styles participate in one of four races of 5, 12, 26 or 53 miles. Seeing as this is the first time I have participated, I thought better of going for the full whack of 53 miles. So have opted to skate for (still a whopping) 26 miles, all in aid of Herts Mind Network, which is my local mental health organistation providing a diverse range of Recovery orientated services in Dacorum, South West Herts, East Hertsmere and South East Herts. Their aim is to promote positive mental health and assist recovery by meeting the needs of the individual, enabling them to make informed choices and take control of their lives.
At the moment training is consisting of my usual roller derby training sessions (although this is more geared towards blocking and knocking other skaters over with my tushie and shoulders at the moment) and walking (usually in a rush) to work, so i need to get my lil butt into gear and train like my life depended on it. Your wonderful hard earned cash would definitely incentivise me! Please give generously you lovely people! And thanks in advance!
Yvette xx
