My late husband survived two aortic dissections and complications following surgery. He was so fortunate to be correctly diagnosed and for his life to be saved by the incredibly skillful cardiac teams at Harefield Hospital in 2013 and 2016. Sadly, he died from a stroke in 2020, which was probably caused by undiagnosed covid.

Molly and Hannah’s Skydive for The Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust
Event date: 30th October 2022
My story
UPDATE I’ve somehow managed to rope my sister Hannah into joining the skydive. Your donations mean the world to us!!
Our lovely dad suffered an aortic dissection at the end of last year, due to genetic predisposition, which came as a great shock to all of us. An aortic dissection is where the lining of the aorta tears, so the blood cannot be pumped around the body effectively, and fills the chest cavity instead. As a result, our dad underwent an emergency nine-hour open heart surgery, remained in hospital for several weeks, and continues to be monitored for a remaining secondary dissection.
For this reason, we will be skydiving from 10-15,000 feet (!!!) to fundraise for The Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust: a brilliant charity which funds research and education around this terrifying condition. It is so important to spread awareness about aortic dissections because, if left untreated or misdiagnosed (as is often the case), 50% of patients don’t survive 24 hours. Your donations will be so important to this incredible charity in supporting their journey to improving the diagnosis and treatment of aortic dissections.
Any donations at all will be hugely appreciated by us and our family. Thank you!!! :)
Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto UK Skydiving Adventures to process and send to your chosen charity.
