Our Inspirational Rescues - Walk in Their Paws for Paws2Rescue

Emma Bateman is raising money for Paws2Rescue

My story

Hi! My name is Emma and I live with my fiancé Daniel. In the month of May, I will be trying to walk at least 20km to help raise money for Paws2Rescue to help build a well-needed sanctuary. For further info, please visit paws2rescue.com/walk-a-kilometre-in-their-paws/
We bought our first home in 2020 and knew instantly we wanted a rescue to make our house a home. Within 2 months of moving in, we had Bailey. She was tiny, skinny, and the story we were told was that she was a stray, so probably left on the side of the road like many others. She isn’t afraid of ANYTHING. Big dogs and hoovers are just extra playtime, but binbags are the only exception, so we can only assume what she went through. Bailey always loved other dogs, always wanted to play and never wanted to leave them or never wanted them to leave our house. We thought it best to get Bailey a sister. In March 2021, Boba (yes, like Boba Fett from Star Wars) came into our lives. We knew that Boba had been left in a bag with her brother, Tomi, on someone’s doorstep. Thankfully, that someone was volunteering her time, home and money to fostering dogs for Paws2Rescue to get them ready to come to the UK.
Boba was completely different to Bailey when she came to us. Bailey settled in the house right away, loved and trusted us instantly and was a very chilled out and happy dog. Boba, however, was so scared she didn’t want to get out of the van. Daniel carried her into our home, and I was waiting in the garden with Bailey. Boba was so scared, she couldn’t stop shaking and weeing. She tried to hide in the corner under the kitchen cabinets, and pulled over our laundry basket and buried herself under the clothes. Within 24hrs of being in a home with food, water, toys and her own bed, she was a different dog. We cried so much for these dogs, and you wouldn’t believe how much love is in their faces when they look at you and just know you’re never going to let them go hungry or lonely or cold or scared ever again. For what they’ve been through, you wouldn’t believe they were the same dogs.
Bailey was so excited when Boba came to us, but she was so patient with her, it was like she knew what Boba had been through. Now, they are inseparable. They sleep in the same beds dotted over the house, they take toys to each other to play together, and they jump up on you if you pick the other up or put them in the bath! These dogs are remarkable, and so loving. They are worth every penny, every tear, every sleepless night.
If enough money is raised for Paws2Rescue, they will be able to help fund important projects to help spay and neuter the Romanian stray dog population, to help find them the homes they deserve and give them any necessary treatments. Their number 1 intention is to open a modern sanctuary to help the many stray and abandoned dogs and pups.
My girls are adopted and adored now, and will never have to worry about anything ever again. But millions of other dogs are dealing with pain, heartbreak and hunger every single day. If I can raise just £150 then I will have been able to contribute something to help these gorgeous animals. As someone with health conditions, this will be an extra little challenge! But it’s for all the other dogs, just like my baby girls, who aren’t as lucky as Bailey and Boba. Please give what you can and help Paws2Rescue and this very important mission to save so many dogs.
Thank you xx
