Outdoor Society Yorkshire Three Peaks

Event date: 25th May 2022

Leeds Beckett Students' Union is raising money for Leeds Hospitals Charity and Motor Neurone Disease Association

My story

Thanks for checking our page! We are the Outdoor Society at Leeds Beckett University. We are a group of students who enjoy walking, hiking and outdoor adventures.

We have put up this fundraising page because at the end of May we'll be walking the Yorkshire Three Peaks, a challenging trek taking on the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent (694m), Whernside (736m) and Ingleborough (723m). The circular route is approximately 24.5 miles in length with an elevation gain of over 1585m! The aim is to complete the hike in 12 hours.

After reading about Kevin Sinfields inspirational fundraising event, we decided that we want to challenge the staff and students at Leeds Beckett University. While doing this challenge, we hope to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) too.

MND is a progressive neurological condition that affects the brain and nerves. Our fundraising money will go towards improving care and support for people with MND, their families and carers.

As students, we have decided that we would like to give back to the community and our fundraising money will be split equally 50/50 between Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) and Leeds Hospitals Charity. We would like to support both a national charity but also our local hospital where the new Rob Burrow Centre for MND Centre is being built.

We are committed to keeping the outdoor environment somewhere that everyone can enjoy. Consequently, the Outdoor Society have committed to donating £100.00 from their society fund to the restoration of footpaths and/or conservation in the Yorkshire Dales. Note: This money will be sourced separately from the money raised in this fundraiser.

Any donations that you can offer would be massively appreciated. We would also welcome any words of positivity or encouragement that you are able to offer our students completing this challenge.

With special thanks to Leeds Beckett Students' Union and Carnegie Great Outdoors for their ongoing support.
