Alexis George is raising money for Withybush Hospital Cancer Day Unit Appeal
In wanting to raise funds for Withybush Cancer Day Unit, I decided to apply to be part of The Breeze Team, a team of 14 ladies from across Wales who will ride Velothon Wales on July 9th 2017.
To my complete surprise, I was selected to take part in this challenge. Having not cycled the "big" miles for several years the thought of cycling 140k is a daunting one - especiallay as there are some nasty hills involved. Anyone who knows me, will know I hate the hills, however I cannot have a bigger motivator than raising funds for Withybush Cancer Day Unit.
Through charity donations the new day unit opened earlier in the year and it is a wonderful facility for Pembrokeshire, which enables many cancer patients to receive treatment at their local hospital. Whilst the new unit is open, funds still need to be raised for vital equipment and to extend the service to ensure Pembrokeshire people have access to treatment locally.
As many people know my sister in law Nia passed away 12 years ago to Leukemia, hence why it is important to us to raise money for such a good cause. Nia received a lot of her care through Withybush Hospital and it's amazing staff, although a lot of her care did also have to come from Cardiff - a horrendous journey to have to keep making if you are poorly. Whist I am not fussed on the idea of cycling 140K and going up something called "The Tumble", I am hoping that I will be able to raise funds that will make a difference to many people's lives in the future.
Completing this cycle is really a team effort, in order to train I rely on my lovely husband and family to have our boys for me to get out on my bike, I also rely heavily on some dear cyclist friends to make sure I get out and keep cycling and persuade me that I will do it!
If you are able to donate, any amount no matter how small is very much appreciated. Many thanks for reading!
