My story

The reason why I am contacting you today is because I am running the 2021 London Marathon on behalf of my close friend James Bedingfield, who took his own life in 2017. There are no words to describe the sadness we felt afterwards.

For those who did not know James, he was a lot of fun to be around. A huge sports fan, a notorious orderer of shots and cocktails at the bar, and a good friend. James was very driven and successful in his career. James was a family man with two amazing children and a wonderful partner. James was also a supreme fundraiser.

During James' lifetime, he raised a staggering amount of money for charities, including the Lord's Taverners, Sheffield Children's Hospital and the Sheffield Family Holiday Fund. This was mainly through bike rides and charity balls. James raised, in total, over £800,000. That’s not a misprint, it was a towering achievement.

A number of us are now determined to get this over the £1,000,000 mark in his memory. I can barely ride a bike, so running looks like my best option.

Fortunately, I will not be alone, and I will be running the London Marathon with a small group of James' close friends and family. Together, we are raising money for the Lord's Taverners, which is the UK's leading youth cricket and disability sports charity and was close to James’ heart and mine. Both James and I shared a passion for cricket, as players and spectators.

Please help me to raise my target of £2,100. Any amount will be gratefully received and will help continue James' remarkable fundraising legacy.

Thank you,

In 2018, the Lord's Taveners donated 43 sports wheelchairs that benefited nearly 300 young people with disabilities.

In 2018, they provided 33 special educational needs (SEN) schools and organisations with sensory rooms and play spaces, with over 4,200 beneficiaries.

In 2017, they provided 3,931 coaching sessions across both their disability cricket programmes in the UK, giving 7,811 young people with disabilities the chance to play cricket.

They provide a range of specially adapted minibuses for SEN Schools catering for young people with learning and physical disabilities.

Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto The Lord's Taverners.
