Ron Green's 101st birthday fundraiser for Hillside Animal Sanctuary

Heather Green is raising money for Hillside Animal Sanctuary

My story

My name is Ron Green. I shall be 101 on 14th November. Rather than receiving cards or birthday presents, this year, it would make me very happy if you would consider giving to a cause very close to my heart – Hillside Animal Sanctuary in Norfolk.

Hillside was founded in 1995 to help and campaign for animals in need, particularly those who suffer every day in the factory farming industry. Hillside is currently home to 2,500 horses, ponies and donkeys, 650 cows, 750 sheep and goats, 300 pigs, 40 dogs (for rehoming) and many other animals, all of whom are in the sanctuary as a result of neglect or because their owners are no longer able to look after them.

Hillside’s animal residents consume in the region of 1000 bales of hay every day, and it would be absolutely wonderful if everyone reading this could give £4 to buy a bale of hay.

Hillside are also looking to fund additional barns to accommodate those animals needing special care as they get older, protecting them from the elements over winter. One barn can provide shelter for around 50 animals.

I have not set a target on my fundraiser because I know that it is a constant struggle for Hillside to provide for the residents they already have, let alone constant new requests to take in neglected animals.

It was the video below, featuring Hillside's founder Wendy Valentine, that initially sparked my interest in the sanctuary:

My updates

I would like to thank everyone for their wonderful generosity in donating to my birthday appeal for Hillside, whether it was donating a much needed bale of hale or the absolutely incredible £5k anonymous donation.

I was so thrilled at the response; you made my birthday even before my birthday arrived. I sincerely thank you as do the people and animals at Hillside. Here is a link to my short video to thank you:

I am continuing to support Hillside so I am keeping this appeal open, for now.

Again, thanking you sincerely in the spirit of love and compassion for all humanity and the animal kingdom.
