Absolutely inspirational Edward, everyone could do with a little bit of your determination and optimism and outlook bottled up. Enjoyed spending time together. Let’s get something arranged when we are able to. Great challenge, great charity, great cousin xx

Run-a-Day 200, 240km challenge run, Hull to Liverpool

Event dates: 10th October 2020 – 12th October 2020

Eddie Garner is raising money for Dementia Forward and Alzheimer's Research UK

My story

I have planned a run.... a long ultra-run! Longest to-date!! 240km (approx. 150miles) from Hull to Liverpool. East to West. I've routed it past 5 Prem stadiums (Elland Road, Etihad, Old Trafford, Goodison Park, Anfield + suppose will include Huddersfield's ground also, why not!) crossing over the mountains and hills of the Pennines just before hitting Manchester.

The start is 7am Sat 10th Oct at Humber Bridge. The target is to finish by the 60hr mark just before sunset on Mon 12th Oct at Anfield. However, the proper deadline I'll say no more than 72hrs!

I have been running every day since that "one exercise per day" lockdown rule. I've managed to get a new 5k/10k/Half-Mara PBs over this time. Plus as some of you may know have become abit of an addict going for those Strava segments for motivation! :)

A couple weeks before hitting day 100, I planned a 100k route for the 100th day, which was amazing to complete. Being able to run still the next day sparked another idea... day 200, 200k!? So here we are.

I've decided to run this to support two closely related charities equally:
Dementia Forward - supporting people living with dementia and those caring for them, across North Yorkshire. "Something extremely close and relative to our family as my Grandma and Grandad continues to suffer from the disease."

Alzheimer's Research UK - with a mission to bring about the first life-changing dementia treatment by 2025; with a vision of a world where people are free from the fear, harm and heartbreak of dementia. "How great a world would be without the fear of the disease for us all!"

I've not set a target amount to raise being reasonably close to the run. I'm not one to often ask for donations. However, every single donation you can make no matter how big or small will 100% push me during those important latter stages of the run. Any donation will be hugely appreciated for a great cause :)

Suppose I best keep running then till the 10th and fingers crossed for no more injuries between now and then (the only thing that would stop me completing this in my mind!)... The going will get tough. I know that. But I'm already going in knowing this, so for when those tougher moments hit... no worries I'll keep on moving forward!

Plus some nice weather would help :D

Extra run details:
10/10/20 | Hull to Huddersfield | 120.0km | 50% of dist. target | 15hrs target duration
11/10/20 | Huddersfield to Warrington | 73.7km | 31% of dist. | 14.5hrs target duration
12/10/20 | Warrington to Liverpool | 46.5km | 19% of dist. | 13.5hrs target duration

(this link won't change and works once I turn the tracker online)

5th Oct: Last week legs felt fairly strong, tonight right shin feeling a lot better, left ankle seems okay also. Next few days will keep runs steady, just eat and store it all up (try carbo load) so can put it all into the weekend. Got few little other bits to prep. but more or less ready for early set off to Hull Sat morning :)

Don't want to jinx it but weather looking fair!

Know quite a few are interested in the tracker link so can watch over the weekend. I've tested this and fairly confident it should work okay. It sends updates on location every 40s once I've got it switched on. I've got external battery packs/data for phone and stuff so should be fine for the whole time.

Might do one last update on Friday day before but yeah all looking good!

27th Sun: Legs feeling a bit less fatigued this week! Still niggle in right shin.. Will put in couple other bigger ones in over next couple weeks but main focus is to feel fully restored before run..

Luckily don't think the new covid rules seem to impact this run too much!

Trailed live tracker again all works and looks good!

Wow, really appreciate all the donations :) Big boost knowing will be running for the cause!

Massive thanks to Shaun Poucher who has also offered to meet and buddy run part of the route from Old Trafford onwards.. likely a time when the going will get tough!

20th Sunday evening legs log: Took as much of a recovery week as I could. Managed a half-marathon today, both niggles are still present however are all but nothing once adrenaline kicks in. Will run sensibility and try to prepare right for the next 19days!!

Many thanks to the donations to date. Very much appreciated for a great cause!
