Running to get men talking

My story

My story’s not unique and one I’ll share & tell,
It goes back many years when I wasn’t sure I was unwell
Ya see I was the happy go lucky guy the one that was big and strong,
Walking tall, going down the pub, things upstairs don’t go wrong.
Then one day here I go in for the big old shock,
I’d turned to crumbling sand so quick when I'd been the big old rock…….

For far too long this has been a taboo topic for men to discuss and now it is “OK TO TALK”, it has to be for us to be OK!
It happened to me slowly, slowly, when you think you’re dealing with things, clearly, I wasn’t doing as well as I thought I was. Believe me when I say it was the biggest shock of my life to find myself in the situation of a full on breakdown when I had been one of the strongest willed men for years. But it took the biggest strength of character along with trained professionals, a fully supportive family and friends to come back from the depth of a despairing place I found myself.
Unfortunately, there wasn’t the likes of Andy’s Man Club around at the time so I had to rely on the national health support which was more than adequate but far less understanding then than it is now, not taking anything away from the service at the time but it has come a long way of late.
A lot of peoples take on the taboo topic then was “you might just need to give your head a shake lad”!! Nowadays there’s so much more understanding, not just in the professional sector but from Joe public, people listen more and people thankfully have started to talk more. We need to get the message out to all men and especially those at a younger age, get them to understand they are not alone, they have got a voice they can use and that it most certainly IS “OK TO TALK”. 👌

My updates

Only 1 week to go before my run and I’m overwhelmed with the fantastic support I’ve received for myself and this well deserving charity. I can’t believe I’ve smashed my goal and, including gift aid managed to get over the £1000:00 marker. Many heart felt thanks to everyone supporting me and this wonderful cause so far and I hope I can manage another PB of running the course in under 2 hours 30 mins. See you all in the pub for a cold Guinness next week 😜👌
