Steve's Solent Swim 2019

Event date: 27th July 2019

Stephen Davis is raising money for West Wight Sports & Community Centre

My story

Hi Everyone,
If you've made it to this page, you'll know that I am committed to taking part in this year's cross Solent challenge event. This is a sea swim of approx 2 Kilometres in open water between the mainland of the UK and the west of the Isle of Wight.
The purpose of the event is to raise much needed funds for the West Wight Sports and Community Centre. I have been attending the West Wight facility for two years now, with the aim of improving my swimming. During this time not only has my swimming improved beyond expectations (thanks to the excellent instructors) but I have witnessed first hand the exemplary work that is done there on so many fronts.
As well as being a first class sports facility this is a true community enterprise that has become the hub of many activities in the area. Whether it's teaching kids to swim properly, providing therapy for those with health issues, channelling youthful energy into rock climbing or skating, hosting social gatherings or offering employment to those with disabilities it is done at West Wight with a positive attitude and a smile.
This is facility that receives no funding from the local council and survives purely on what it can raise from self generated income via membership fees, trading revenue and fundraising activities.
Running costs are tightly managed and moneys received are spent wisely.
Please give what you can to support this much needed facility, you can be sure that your donation will be appreciated and put to good use.
Thanks in anticipation,
Steve
