A Limb Can Change a Life. Help 588 People Take Their Next Step

For many people living with disabilities, mobility is not simply about walking. It is about being able to go to school, earn a livelihood, care for family, access healthcare and participate in everyday life with confidence and dignity.

Yet, for many individuals from underserved and marginalized communities, access to artificial limbs, assistive devices and specialized medical care remains out of reach.

Since 1985, Narayan Seva Sansthan has been working to bridge this gap by providing corrective surgeries, artificial limbs, assistive devices, rehabilitation support and vocational training to help people move towards greater independence.

A Camp That Identified 588 Journeys Waiting to Begin

On 16 August 2026, Narayan Seva Sansthan organized an Artificial Limb Measurement Camp in Ballari, Karnataka, bringing assessment and mobility support closer to people who need it.

The camp was more than a medical assessment. It was an important first step in understanding each beneficiary's needs and identifying the right intervention—whether an artificial limb, calipers, corrective surgery or another assistive device.

The camp also included measurements for Narayan Modular Artificial Limbs, manufactured using Japanese and German 3D-printing technology.

The impact of the Ballari camp

• 797 people accessed OPD services.
• 569 beneficiaries were assessed for artificial limbs.
• 588 artificial limb measurements were recorded.
• 65 beneficiaries were assessed for calipers, with 99 measurements recorded.
• 20 beneficiaries were identified for corrective surgeries.
• 15 wheelchairs were distributed.

Behind every number is a person waiting for an opportunity to move forward.

For some, that opportunity may mean taking their first confident steps with an artificial limb. For another, it may mean returning to work, travelling independently or simply being able to participate in everyday activities without depending on others.

The Measurement Was Only the Beginning

An assessment tells us what a person needs. The real transformation begins when that need is fulfilled.

For the 588 beneficiaries measured for artificial limbs at the Ballari camp, the next stage is to provide the mobility support identified for them.

The journey is:

Identification → Assessment → Surgery, where required → Artificial Limb/Assistive Device → Fitting → Rehabilitation → Independence

This continuum of support is important because an artificial limb is not merely a medical device. When appropriately fitted and followed by rehabilitation, it can become a means of restoring mobility, confidence and participation in daily life.
