Meet Buddy

In September 2025, we saw a lovely little boy looking for a foster home. We picked him up from his previous foster family and brought him home on 23rd September 2025, thinking we were simply giving him somewhere safe to stay until he found his forever family.

We very quickly realised we were his forever family.

He had a different name back then, but it didn't take long for him to become our Buddy. From the moment he arrived, his cheeky, mischievous ways completely won us over.

Stubborn, cheeky, full of character, and completely convinced he runs the house.
And, to be honest, he does!
He runs the house… we just live in it.

What started as “we'll foster him until he finds his forever home” quickly became “he IS home.”

So Buddy stayed.

On 1st August 2026, we officially signed the adoption papers and our foster boy became our boy forever. He is the centre of our entire world, and adopting him was the easiest decision we've ever made.

But when Buddy came to us, we didn't know what his journey would involve.

We soon discovered significant orthopaedic problems, including angular limb deformity, luxating joints and difficulties with movement.

In January 2026, Buddy underwent major surgery on his left leg, which involved stabilising it with metal rods, with the hope of improving stability and movement and delaying the onset of arthritis.

Unfortunately, his recovery hasn't been straightforward. The cartilage and joint in his left leg weren't as healthy as hoped, and healing hasn't gone as expected. Because his left leg needs to remain the priority, surgery on his other leg has had to be put on hold, and we don't yet know whether it will ever be possible.

His journey has included surgery, setbacks, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, rehabilitation, countless vet visits, and plenty of worry.

He's also faced ongoing ear and allergy problems, itchy paws and dietary challenges.

But alongside the difficult days have been so many little victories. Watching Buddy build strength, improve his muscle tone and gain confidence through rehabilitation and hydrotherapy has been amazing.

PDWRA has been incredible for Buddy and for us. They have always put his health and wellbeing first. PDWRA fund all treatments for his existing conditions as insurance companies will not insure him. He has hydrotherapy and physiotherapy rehab funded by the PDWRA.

We'll continue to support PDWRA wherever we can, because every dog deserves the chance Buddy had.
