CEFC Elgar's The Apostles Recording Project

Raising for Crouch End Festival Chorus

Crouch End Festival Chorus is planning to record Elgar's The Apostles in 2027 which, alongside our recent recording of The Kingdom, will complete a pair of companion works that stand among the most ambitious and moving creations in the English choral tradition. The Kingdom has been an important milestone in the musical life of the choir. Its recording, released in 2025, allowed us to share Elgar’s vision with listeners far beyond the concert hall. We are now looking ahead to the next chapter in this journey with our new recording project, which will enable us to continue to build a legacy of English choral music for generations to come.

A project of this scale requires significant support. As a registered charity, we rely on the generosity of those who believe in the value of preserving great music and making it accessible to all, so we will be very grateful for any amount you can give to help us realise this ambitious endeavour.

The total projected cost of the recording is £89,000*, which we hope to achieve through a combination of online and offline donations, fundraising events, philanthropy and sponsorship.

*The projected cost is based on a combination of known costs and estimates for different elements of the recording process. In the event that the recording does not go ahead as intended, any funds raised will be used towards CEFC's general charitable objectives, which may include future recording projects. The same will apply to any excess raised over the amount required to realise this recording project.

About us

Crouch End Festival Chorus

Charity number: 1110790

Crouch End Festival Chorus is one of Britain's major symphonic choirs. Based in north London, the choir was founded in 1984 by David Temple and John Gregson, and David has remained as music director ever since, shaping the choir's progress as it built a fine reputation in the UK and internationally.

With some 150 singers on its books, Crouch End Festival Chorus is known for its versatility and eclectic repertoire, ranging from the traditional classical works to modern and specially-commissioned pieces.

The choir promotes its own concerts at major venues such as the Barbican Hall and Royal Festival Hall in London, while also celebrating its local roots with performances in Muswell Hill, Crouch End and Highgate (see concert calendar for upcoming performances). In addition, Crouch End Festival Chorus is in constant demand for recording work and external live promotions and appears regularly in the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.
