Raising for Carers In Hertfordshire
This September I’m climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. At 5,895 metres it's the tallest free‑standing mountain in the world, and I’m taking her on with every ounce of determination I’ve got. This is the biggest physical challenge I’ve ever attempted. I’ve decided to do this challenge to honour Carers in Hertfordshire, a charity I deeply believe in.
As someone with first‑hand experience of being an unpaid carer, I know how demanding, isolating, and emotionally heavy a role it can be. Carers often carry huge responsibilities in silence. They put their own wellbeing behind the person with the illness, disability or care need that they support. This climb is my way of standing up for those who carry that weight.
Carers in Hertfordshire provides vital guidance, emotional support, and a sense of community to family and friend carers. Every donation helps them continue their essential work. Many carers feel unseen or overwhelmed, and this challenge is my way of helping ensure they get the recognition and help they deserve.
Training for Kilimanjaro has been a journey of resilience, discipline, and determination. I’ve been preparing regularly at Nuffield Health Hemel Hempstead, where the classes and instructors have supported me physically and mentally. Every step, every metre climbed, and every moment of effort is dedicated to the carers who show strength every single day.
Let’s build something amazing together. Help me beat my target and keep motivated for the climb.
Sharing this page will help to amplify the cause and ensure unpaid carers know they are not alone and that support is available when they need it.
Thank you for your kindness, support and helping to make a difference.

Well done Clare!! What an amazing feat to undertake for a wonderful cause!!
Message from Clare: I have just electronically put through four incredibly kind donations that were given in cash to my mum at her Saturday coffee morning today. Thank you so much to Doris, John, Denise and Hazel & Neil, your generosity is hugely appreciated. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Jane Fan from my mum's book club, I have been moved by your support for this cause when we haven't even met yet. Thank you so much to each and every one of you who has donated online, my mystery anonymous and extremely generous intriguing donor and via my amazingly supportive mum. It's truly struck me to the core that kindness has come from every corner of my life. Some of you know me well, some I haven’t seen in years, some I’ve never met, and some family who’ve shown up so generously. Your kindness means more than I can say. A very special thank you to my amazing friend whose £100 donation made today a WOW day for me, my friend in Spain, my second cousin Matthew, my amazing niece Layla J and nephew Alfie, my sister Bernie, and of course my mum for sharing this journey with her circles and supporting me every step of the way. I’ve also noticed through making payments that there’s a tipping section on the website for the platform and wanted to make clear that is completely optional — if you click ‘enter a custom amount’ you can reduce the tip to zero. Please don’t feel obliged to add anything there. I’m unable to reply individually on the platform, but please know I’ve read every name and every message. Your support is lifting me and driving this challenge forward. To anyone who donates in the future — thank you in advance for joining me in this. If you’d like to follow my training and the climb itself (signal dependant), you’re very welcome to join me on Instagram: @chia974. Thank you again for being part of this journey with me. Clare
