Northampton Transport Heritage is a registered charity dedicated to preserving Northamptonshire transport history and making it accessible to the public. We currently preserve eight Northants operated or registered buses which are ex-United Counties and Northampton Corporation Transport. We host running day events and partner with local authorities and other organisations. We also take our vehicles out to schools, care homes and day centres as well as running various members-only trips throughout the year.
This campaign is support the ongoing restoration of our ex-Northampton Corporation Transport 1953 Daimler CVG6 that has been of the road for over 20 years! This bus was part of a batch of ten chassis that were supplied by Daimler and they had body work built by Roe, of Leeds. the latter five of that batch were supplied with Park Royal metal framed bodies due to the unavailability of seasoned teak. Park Royal was the parent company of Roe Ltd. It is thought that this is probably the only remaining Roe body with metal Park Royal frames left in the country, so it is a unique and rare survivor. Restoration should be straight forward as it is thought that the frames are still very solid, as is the chassis. The engine, though, will require a rebuild but it will start after a bit of persuasion so the vehicle is mobile and can be moved around the storage facility.
