Raising for The Rosie Jones Foundation
Dr Paul Taylor-Pitt is a writer, coach and behavioural scientist, and the author of Still Here! Still Queer! Now What? A Guide to LGBTQ+ Wellness and Wholeness in Midlife.
The book was created from conversations with LGBTQ+ people about what it really means to grow older in our community. Those stories are gloriously varied and deeply intersectional, because there is no single way to be queer, just as there is no single experience of ageing, belonging or being in the world.
Throughout his book tour, Paul is using his events to raise money for The Rosie Jones Foundation.
Paul’s husband, Dan, has cerebral palsy, diagnosed in his mid-forties. Sharing a life with Dan has given Paul a much greater understanding of the barriers, assumptions and everyday exclusions disabled people can encounter. It has also taught him the importance of listening to disabled people rather than speaking for them.
Paul chose The Rosie Jones Foundation because Rosie’s campaigning refuses to put people into neat little boxes. She is an unapologetically disabled, queer voice challenging prejudice, increasing visibility and making space for people who are too often pushed to the edges.
That feels entirely connected to the purpose of Still Here! Still Queer! Now What? The book is for the **whole** LGBTQ+ community, in all our difference and complexity. Our identities intersect. So should our solidarity.
Paul hopes that every event on the tour can do a little more than celebrate a book. It can help raise money, raise visibility and contribute to a world in which more of us get to live fully, loudly and on our own terms.
£720 will fund 12 sessions of lived experience led counselling for a person with cerebral palsy who is otherwise unable to access specialist counselling. Those who have accessed the service so far have described it as truly life changing and in many cases, life saving.
Together we can make people with cerebral palsy feel seen and heard and not just change but save a life.
