Rafiki Thabo Foundation works to enable access to education for disadvantaged children in Kenya, Uganda and Lesotho. Education has the power to unlock every child’s potential and to not only uplift the course of their lives, but those of their families and communities as well. With an education these children can secure good, paid work and increase their opportunity to enjoy a future with unlimited possibilities they would otherwise not have had.
Working together with trusted, local in-country committees to identify the young people who are most in need of this support, our four programmes include:
Scholarship Programme, which ensures the provision of bursaries to bright young minds who have gained a place at a secondary school or university, but whose families do not have the financial means to pay their fees. In 2025 we are supporting more than 450 young people through education!
With our ‘Eat Well to Learn’ Programme, we are able to provide at least 70 of the very poorest students at our partner school in Uganda with a nutritious school meal each day. For many of the children, this is their only daily meal, without which they would brave their long walk to and from school on an empty stomach, with little energy left to learn in class, making them more likely to drop out of school.
The development of School Infrastructure and other ‘holistic’ projects are geared towards improving the learning environment for the children. Recent projects include re-equipping an IT lab, constructing pig sties and chicken coops to generate income for the schools, providing electricity in the classrooms and the renovation and expansion of dormitories.
We also work to remove barriers to education for children living with disabilities, in partnership with three organisations in Kenya. Together we fund therapies and treatment for the children, as well as provide support and training for their parents. Helping the children with access to an education which is best suited to their special needs.
For every £350 raised, a child in Uganda can be educated at a secondary school for an entire year!
With your help, we can make this possible.

This May we invite you, our wonderful supporters, to walk 5K in support of Rafiki Thabo for National Walking Month! A perfect opportunity to enjoy fresh air and light exercise with the whole family! With lighter mornings and evenings we would love you to take on this challenge at any time of the day throughout May and get sponsored by your friends and family to raise funds in support of our work.
What better way for our children to learn how easy, enjoyable and rewarding it is to help others less fortunate than themselves, than to encourage them to step out and step up to help other children into school!
For every £5 they raise a vulnerable child in Uganda can get a hot, nutritious school meal every day for 2 weeks, giving them the energy to learn!
£85 can pay for a school uniform for a street child in Kenya, without which they would be unable to attend school.
If your family raise £300 you can enable a child in Lesotho to go to school for a year!
£550 can secure a year at vocational college for a young person living with a disability in Kenya, enabling them to learn skills such as carpentry or catering so they can set up their own businesses.
These are just some of the powerful examples of how you and your children can help transform someone's future… simply by enjoying the great British outdoors together this May!
We'd love your support and wish you the best of luck with your 5K!
