Lucy Hogg running the Hastings Half Marathon for PLIRB!

Raising for Pett Level Independent Rescue Boat

Our brilliant local supporter Lucy Hogg is running the 2026 Hastings Half Marathon - and has chosen Pett Level Independent Rescue Boat as her chosen charity!

Thank you Lucy!

Lucy is a loyal supporter, having raised money through sea swimming achievements and has a stall at our annual Open Day event.

As an independent lifeboat, we are entirely self-managed and self-funded. We receive no centralised or government funding - every penny we spend is earnt by through the hard work and commitment of our volunteers and supporters.

Our annual running costs have increased rapidly in recent years and are now over £20,000 each year - and we are required to hold three years worth of running costs!

Please support Lucy to help her raise funds for us - and thank you for your generosity.

About us

Pett Level Independent Rescue Boat

Charity number: 286891

We are an independent lifeboat based in Pett Level, East Sussex, serving the community between Camber and Hastings. With a 55-year history, our mission is the preservation of life at sea and on inland waters. We train, operate and launch for service in exactly the same way as the RNLI but, like all independent lifeboats, we are entirely self-funded and self-managed.

We operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and everyone is a volunteer.

We are tasked by UK Coastguard and work in cooperation with local RNLI stations and all other emergency services. We are tasked 30+ times a year, in addition to local calls for first aid and other community services. We often cover for our neighbouring RNLI stations in Rye and Hastings when they do not have the personnel to respond to taskings.

We operate two rescue boats, a 5.4 metre Zodiac MilPro RIB and a 3.4 metre Arancia Surf RIB. These assets allow us to get in close to the cliffs – essential for our area.

Our taskings range from towing casualty vessels, locating and rescuing casualties on the cliffs or cut off by the tide, searching for missing children or vulnerable people and many other types of incidents.
