Running 26.2 miles for Dreamflight – Inspired by Edward’s journey
Raising for Dreamflight
Event date:
Hi, I’m Pippa Wake, Headteacher of Birchwood Primary School, and I’m taking on the London Marathon 2026 in celebration of one of our pupils, Edward, who has been selected to go on this year’s Dreamflight trip.
Edward was first diagnosed with a brain tumour at just 3 years old. Since then, he’s faced years of intensive treatment - including chemotherapy, proton beam therapy in Germany, and ongoing challenges from hydrocephalus and hearing loss. Through it all, Edward has shown incredible resilience and determination.
Dreamflight is a charity that takes children with serious illnesses or disabilities on the holiday of a lifetime to Orlando, Florida. It’s not just a trip - it’s a chance for children to build confidence, independence, and lifelong memories.
Edward’s journey has already brought so much joy and excitement to our school. His family is deeply involved in our community - his grandma works in our breakfast club, his grandad is the PTFA treasurer, and his dad runs the school football club. We’re all incredibly proud of Edward and thrilled that he’ll be part of this year’s Dreamflight adventure.
As a school, we wanted to give something back. So I’m lacing up my trainers and running 26.2 miles to help raise funds so that more children like Edward can experience the magic of Dreamflight.
🎯 My fundraising target is £3,000
Every penny raised will go directly to Dreamflight, helping to fund future trips and give more children the chance to take part in this life-changing experience.
Whether it’s spare change from behind the sofa, a donation from a local business, or support from our school community - it all adds up and makes a real difference.
💛 Thank you for your support
I’m so grateful for every bit of encouragement and generosity. Together, we can help more children take flight and create memories that last a lifetime.
