Raising for The Nautical Archaeology Society
On the 7th March 1665 tragedy struck in the Thames Estuary, when the warship London exploded with the loss of over 300 souls. Today, over 350 years later, the tragedy continues as the wreck site washes away with every passing ship and tide.
Please help us to raise funds to support the work of local volunteer dive team to advance, promote and provide for the preservation of the amazing London shipwreck in the Thames Estuary and its artefacts for public benefit and to protect it for future generations.
This is our new Give As You Live fundraising platform, created as we changed provider in August 2026. So far £63,104 has been raised since 2019, with 91% of funds going directly to cover diving and artefact conservation and documentation costs. Only 9% has been spent on fundraising administration.
Charity number: 264209
The Nautical Archaeology Society wants to allow everyone to benefit from the unique and fascinating resource that is the world's maritime heritage. It was fundamentally established 'to further research in nautical archaeology and publish the results'.
NAS is a UK based charity (Registered in England No. 1039270 English Registered Charity No: 262209 and Scotland No: SC040130) and a limited company (registered in England No: 1039270). It also has strong links to other organisations around the world which work together collectively to promote the cause on a global scale.
NAS is dedicated to advancing education on nautical archaeology to everyone, its members, the general public and across the global archaeological sector. To this end it publishes a quarterly member's newsletter "Nautical Archaeology".
The charity is trying to help save what it can from the Protected Wreck of the London - a historic wreck on Historic England's Heritage At Risk register. The Save the London campaign launched in 2019 is supporting the volunteer divers and the conservation costs of objects that are recovered from the site. By 2026 the NAS had raised over £63,000 allowing the team to visit the London wreck and record it's condition and save precious artefacts before it's too late.
Huge thank you to our biggest supporters - DiveMaster Insurance and DP World UK.
