Support St David’s Brass: Help us reach the national stage!

Raising for St David's Brass Band SCIO

Event dates:

Our journey to the Championships

For over 40 years, St David’s Brass has been a pillar of the Midlothian community. From our roots as a school band to our recent, historic milestone of finally securing a permanent home at Vogrie Hall, we have always punched above our weight.

The last year was a contrast of highs and lows – while we completed our hall renovations and saw our youngest member win gold at the East of Scotland Solo Contest, we also experienced a deep loss within the band.

Now, we have a new mountain to climb. We have qualified for the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain in York, and we need your help to get there. To represent Gorebridge, Midlothian and Scotland on the national stage, our band of volunteers needs to raise £6,000 to cover the skyrocketing costs of travel and accommodation. While the band will be running our own fundraising efforts, your donations help keep our focus on putting together the best performance we can.

Where your donation goes

We are a charity-run band, and every penny raised goes toward getting our players and their instruments to the competition. Here is exactly how your support makes a difference:

  • £55 covers a band member’s return travel on the band coach.
  • £110 sponsors a member’s accommodation, ensuring they are rested and ready to perform.
  • £100 pays for the full set of sheet music for our competition test piece.
  • £250 covers the rehearsal space hire and entry fees required to compete at this level.

More than just playing music

We pride ourselves on being a family at St David's Brass, quite literally. We have three generations of the same family playing in the band!

By supporting this campaign, you aren't just paying for a bus ticket; you are investing in a community that provides free musical tuition to local youth and has transformed a derelict building into a vibrant community hub.

Please donate what you can to help us keep the music playing. Every contribution brings us another mile closer to the competition!

Our updates

Initial target reached: Over £2,000 raised 🎉

We are absolutely blown away by the overwhelming support shown to St David's Brass. In less than a month, our incredible community has helped us reach our initial £2,000 milestone!

A massive thank you to every single person who has donated, shared our posts, and cheered us on. In particular, the band wants to give a special standing ovation to an anonymous supporter for their incredibly generous £1,000 donation - this has given our campaign a massive boost!

The road to York continues 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿➡️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

While we’ve hit our first target, we still have a long road ahead of us. We have just over five months to reach our final £6,000 goal - this will ensure all our volunteers, players and their instruments get to the National Championships safely and can focus on putting on the best performance to hopefully bring the Nationals trophy back to Scotland.

What’s next? 🗓️

We aren't stopping here! We have a busy few months of fundraising ahead, including:

  • Upcoming concerts: Dates to be announced soon - come and hear the band in person!
  • Sponsored virtual bike ride: Watch this space as our members cycle the ~170 miles from our Gorebridge band hall to York to raise funds
  • Sponsor a seat: We are offering local businesses and individuals the chance to sponsor a 'seat' in the band. A great way to support an individual player and see your name (or logo) associated with the St David’s Brass family.

The music is set!

The Nationals organisers have officially announced our test piece for the Nationals: 'Snow Island' by Thierry Deleruyelle.

It’s a challenging, beautiful work, and we can’t wait to perfect it for the big stage in September.

Every penny raised helps support our charity-run band, championing local music and our home at Vogrie Hall. Please help us keep the momentum going!

Milestone reached: £1,000 raised!

We are so grateful for the overwhelming support we’ve received in these early stages of our campaign. Reaching the £1,000 mark is a huge boost for the band.

What does this £1,000 do? This first milestone allows us to tick off some essential costs, such as:

  • The full set of sheet music for our competition test piece 🎼
  • Rehearsal space hire and entry fees 🏠
  • Travel costs for roughly half of our players and their instruments 🎟️

As well as helping us get to the Nationals, your support helps us rehearse, perform and provide free music tuition within our community.

Please help us keep the momentum going by sharing our link with friends, family, and fellow music lovers!
