The cost of living is pushing people further into poverty. It's not right that anyone faces hunger, stuck without enough money for essentials.

Even though about 40% of people using foodbanks are in work, people on the lowest incomes often can't afford the essentials. Crisis situations also result in people needing support from the foodbank. The foodbank is there to help people facing hunger in their time of need.

South-West Belfast Foodbank serves a large area of Belfast, supporting a population of around 100,000 people, approximately 30% of Belfast City Council’s area. This includes almost 20% of the most deprived council wards in Northern Ireland (NISRA). According to data from the End Child Poverty Coalition, over 6% more children in West Belfast live in poverty than the NI average.

Last year, South-West Belfast Foodbank provided emergency food supplies to 4,590 individuals, distributing a total of 55,750 meals and 23,523 kg of food.

We also refer people to other organisations who can offer additional advice and support, helping to lift people out of longer term poverty.

Our foodbank is locally run and governed, although it is also part of The Trussell Trusts UK-wide community of foodbanks.
