URGENT LAUNCH VEHICLE CAMPAIGN

Raising for Pett Level Independent Rescue Boat

As our supporters know, we worked hard to raise the funding for our new boathouse. Our next project was meant to be raising funds for a replacement lifeboat.

However, our launch vehicle is suffering severe mechanical failures which we are struggling to keep repaired. We are facing a real risk of not having a reliable and safe vehicle to launch our lifeboat on service. With the combined factors of increases to our taskings, the wider area we are covering and the reduced service from flanking RNLI stations, we simply CANNOT afford to not be able to respond.

WE URGENTLY NEED TO REPLACE OUR LAUNCH VEHICLE. This is now a critical priority over a replacement lifeboat.

We cannot transfer money raised from the protected new lifeboat fund and the Charities Commission won’t respond to our request to transfer for three months. We could use our reserve account – but that means we will deplete all our available running cost funds.
PLIRB is a vital lifesaving asset more now than it has ever been in our 56-year history.

As an independent, we can never afford brand new. We are looking at a cost of approx. £30k for a second-hand unit.

We appreciate this is a huge amount to ask of our community who already support us so well. So we are asking to please share. If there are businesses who can help, please get in touch.

Every PLIRB volunteer trains to serve. Please help to keep us on service.

About us

Pett Level Independent Rescue Boat

Charity number: 286891

We are an independent lifeboat based in Pett Level, East Sussex, serving the community between Camber and Hastings. Originating in 1970, our mission has always been the preservation of life at sea and on inland waters. We train, operate and launch for service in exactly the same way as the RNLI but, like all independent lifeboats, we are entirely self-funded and self-managed.

We operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and everyone is a volunteer.

We are tasked by UK Coastguard and work in cooperation with local RNLI stations and all other emergency services. We are tasked 30+ times a year, in addition to local calls for first aid and other community services. We often cover for our neighbouring RNLI stations in Rye and Hastings when they do not have the personnel to respond to taskings.

We operate two rescue boats, a 5.4 metre Zodiac MilPro RIB and a 3.4 metre Arancia Surf RIB. These assets allow us to get in close to the cliffs – essential for our area.

Our taskings range from towing casualty vessels, locating and rescuing casualties on the cliffs or cut off by the tide, searching for missing children or vulnerable people and many other types of sensitive and complex incidents.
