Enabling one-off donations in our cashless society

October 2024 | Give as you Live Donate is launching its proprietary Tap to Donate app, enabling charities to collect and manage one-off contactless donations.

According to the Institute of Economic Affairs, cash payments fell from 54% to 14% in the decade between 2012 and 2022. In 2023, that figure fell to just 12%*, further cementing the growth of our cashless society and closing off opportunities for charities to fundraise on the fly. The change bucket is gone forever.

But now the charity sector can return to one of its most popular forms of fundraising - simply asking for the kindness of strangers, to give what they can in the moment.

And you can do it more easily than ever before.

No more need to rent or purchase hardware to accept contactless donations.
No more admin hassle of manually attributing cashless one-off donations.
No more need to only sign up givers to direct debit arrangements.

How does it work?

For volunteers and staff at events, or just out on the street, their phone becomes the only device they need, without carrying an additional contactless card reader device.

Any fundraising volunteer can use the app on a mobile phone, using a charity PIN number to begin collecting for your organisation. The app allows for attribution of each donation to a particular event or campaign, or just as a general donation.

Tap to Donate handles the data and consent to enable Gift Aid contributions and supports contactless donations from either a debit/credit card or from a mobile wallet such as Google Pay or Apple Pay.

This new function fits seamlessly into the Give as you Live ecosystem, giving charities the same dataset from a contactless donation as you would get from the rest of our family of products, via ticketed events or website fundraising and campaign pages.

How are these donations managed?

Give as you Live Donate understand that receiving the donation is only part of the equation. Those donations still need to be managed without it becoming a burdensome process.

That’s relatively simple for solo fundraisers, but less so for larger charities. We understand you may have siloed fundraising teams whose data is harder to track, collate and report on. And those charged with charity finance don’t all have the highest level of CRM and accounting software.

Within the Give as you Live Donate platform, you can now have a single comprehensive picture of all your donation fundraising facilities in one place, get a better view of the donating pattern of individuals, and create appropriate strategies to suit.

We might not be able to replicate the sound of change jingling in a bucket but, after a period of transition, the opportunity to ask people for one-off support is here again.
