About us
Butterfly Conservation is working hard to halt and reverse the decline of Britain's butterflies and moths. Our vision is to create a world rich in butterflies and moths for future generations to enjoy.
Butterfly Conservation - Kent and South East London Branch
Kent and SE London is a remarkable place to study butterflies and moths. Not only is Kent a large county, but it contains a remarkably wide diversity of habitats - including landscapes such as the Kent Coast Cliffs & Downs, the chalk grassland of the Kent Downs, ancient woodlands including Blean woods and Romney Marsh. Our warm and sunny climate is ideal for many lepidoptera. Our southeastern location close to the continent places us on the front line for migrants. Small wonder that over forty species of butterfly and some of our rarest moths can be found here.
As a branch of Butterfly Conservation covering Kent and the London boroughs of Lewisham, Greenwich, Bexley and Bromley we seek to increase knowledge of our butterflies and moths, to support conservation of their habitats and to widen their study and enjoyment. We invite you to take your interest the next level, for example through recording, conservation work and field trips.
