Boat engine for London Shipwreck Project

Raising for The Nautical Archaeology Society

In March 2025 we had sad news that Joyride's engine has been condemned and needs to be replaced.

We need to raise a total of £12,000 fast. If we don't, the volunteers risk losing the dive season and will be unable to monitor and document the site or save artefacts from being lost from the wreck and from history.

We already have an amazing offer of support from DiveMaster Insurance for half the amount needed, but without public support this won't be enough.

We appreciate times are tough for many people right now and would not dream of asking for donations if you can't afford it, but if you can spare a little (or a lot) it would be wonderful.

Thank you

About us

The Nautical Archaeology Society

Charity number: 264209

The Nautical Archaeology Society wants to allow everyone to benefit from the unique and fascinating resource that is the world's maritime heritage. It was fundamentally established 'to further research in nautical archaeology and publish the results'.

NAS is a UK based charity (Registered in England No. 1039270 English Registered Charity No: 262209 and Scotland No: SC040130) and a limited company (registered in England No: 1039270). It also has strong links to other organisations around the world which work together collectively to promote the cause on a global scale.

NAS is dedicated to advancing education on nautical archaeology to everyone, its members, the general public and across the global archaeological sector. To this end it publishes a quarterly member's newsletter "Nautical Archaeology".

The charity is trying to help save what it can from the Protected Wreck of the London - a historic wreck on Historic England's Heritage At Risk register. The Save the London campaign launched in 2019 is supporting the volunteer divers and the conservation costs of objects that are recovered from the site. In 2025 the NAS is helping to raise money for the purchase of a new engine for the RIB as it failed a service and was condemned as a write off. Without the engine the team won't be able to visit the site and record it's condition and save precious artefacts before it's too late.
