To advance the education of the pupils of the school by providing and assisting in the provision of the facilities for the education at the school (not normally provided by the local education authority).
Event dates: Friday 15th March – Saturday 4th May
We, like every school nationally, are seeing the impact of the Covid19 pandemic on our children. All of our children have experienced disrupted school and/or early years education and we see the impact of this daily in the learning challenges and anxieties that many of our children are experiencing. Older children are missing the early underpinnings of literacy and numeracy and struggle with reading due to missing lessons setting up their foundations when they should have been in school during their younger academic years. Our younger children show heightened levels of anxiety and emotional dysregulation as a result of the anxieties of the pandemic in their formative years. The impact that this has had on their foundations of learning and emotional wellbeing has been profound.
We are currently in the midst of a refurbishment of our library to include redecoration, new furniture and new books -both fiction and non-fiction- to cover all ages from Foundation to Year 6. This is a well-loved space in our school which is used daily for library visits, teaching small groups, 1-1 work and pastoral care.
Research clearly shows that as well as doing better at school, children who read regularly and for pleasure experience better life-long outcomes in health, happiness, self-esteem and social mobility (BookTrust). We hope that by improving our library space we can motivate and create a love of both reading and learning that will improve the life-long outcomes of all the children who attend our school.
