Cyclone Freddy Emergency Relief

**The aftermath of Cyclone Freddy is still unfolding. Our team on the ground have been working around the clock delivering relief. **

Thanks to our amazing supporters we are able to keep delivering supplies and we are working our way around our communities delivering tarpaulins, maize, soya, waterguard, tap buckets and soap to deal with the immediate essentials of shelter, food, water and sanitation. The scale of the rebuilding and repair effort is massive, with houses, schools, bridges and other infrastructure destroyed or made unusable.

Our appeal will continue so that we can raise funds to tackle as much of the rebuilding and restoration work as we can. These communities are doing all they can to help themselves but they are facing enormous challenges not least the escalating Cholera outbreak that was already sweeping the country.

Please give what you can to our ongoing appeal.

The latest update as of 24th March 2023 from United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) are as follows:

  • There are currently 563,771 people internally displaced residing in 577 camps.
  • 511 deaths have been reported, at least 1,724 people are injured.
  • 533 people are still missing according to Malawi’s Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA).
  • Nearly 286,000 people are currently in areas only accessible by air in 13 Traditional Authorities (TAs), while a further 11 TAs have areas that are cut-off and isolated but the number of people in them is not currently known.

Our Community Based Childcare Centres (CBCC’s) continue to be a much needed place of refuge, with people collecting supplies and using the stoves and pots to make food.

Thank you to everyone who has so far donated, your generous help and support means we can reach as many people as possible. This is just the beginning of a long road to recovery for many and so any further help is, as always, truly appreciated.
