Dignity and Freedom for the poor, the marginalised and the outcastes in South Asia - through education, healthcare, economic empowerment and community development.
We run over 100 schools providing quality English-medium, values-based education for more than 26,000 children in India. We also provide: clinics, HIV and AIDS centres, and community healthworkers; vocational training, self-help groups and small business start-up grants; holistic prevention and awareness programme among at-risk women and children in rural India.
Most children attending Good Shepherd schools come from poor and marginalised communities where access to healthcare is very limited. As a result many come with unidentified health issues which can badly affect their schooling. That is why early and regular health checks are so important.
Our community health workers are trained to conduct these health checks and can quickly identify common problems such as poor eyesight, poor hearing or more seriously, malnutrition. They can also get help from other medics when required.
Once identified many health issues can be resolved at low cost. For example it costs only £5 to check a child’s eyesight and provide a pair of spectacles. Your gift will help fund more health checks.
