About us
Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home is part of the fabric of our city, working in partnership with the Council and Police services, members of the public and wider community by welcoming lost, stray, and abandoned pets from all corners of Edinburgh and the Lothians.
Our organisation benefits from the skills and experience of our staff, comprised of long-serving kennel veterans and enthusiastic new talent. Our small team is united by the love and dedication towards the animals in our care, and the belief that any dog or cat that comes to our door, whatever the reason, should be safe, warm and well-fed.
Our vision is to create a community where unwanted and mistreated animals are given a voice and a second chance for a happy and forever home; and where anybody who can, will act to advocate for animals still suffering.
Walk 9K for K9s challenge
Event dates: Saturday 28th August 2021 – Monday 30th August 2021
It's no surprise that the past year has been a difficult one, especially for the Home. With our rehoming programme paused for a total of 6 months, stall and events being cancelled or postponed, and the many knock-on effects from the pandemic.
Luckily, our dedicated staff, volunteers, and local community have helped to support the Home over the past 16 months. Now it's your turn! We know how important your pooch has been throughout lockdown, so this challenge is for you and your best (furry) friend.
To celebrate National Dog Day in August, Give as You Live “Wagathon” is holding a 9K for K9 challenge over the weekend of 28 and 29 August. All you need to do is sign up, make a fundraising page and share it with your friends and family, then take on the challenge of walking 9K with your K9.
It’s up to you if you’d like to walk the 9km in one go or take your time over the whole weekend. For reference, 9km is the distance from the Home to Calton Hill and back again!
This is event is FREE to take part in and, alongside this campaign, Give as You Live Donate will be running an online competition. Dog owners could be in with a chance of winning a £100 donation for their chosen dog charity and a £100 hamper full of treats and goodies for their pooch! Full details of the competition will be released in early August.
If you'd like to support the Home and be in for a chance to win, simply sign up for free to start your fundraising journey and help the dogs and cats in our care to find their forever homes.
🐾 £75 could provide life-saving vaccines and preventative medication to 4 dogs on arrival at the Home
🐾 £150 could neuter a dog in our care
🐾 £300 could provide food for one dog for an entire year

Stop for a moment and give yourself a HUGE pat on the back! Raising 41% is an incredible achievement and you should be so proud. So far you have helped us raise £1,188.75 including gift aid. This amount is enough to give 60 dogs give life-saving vaccinations and preventive medication when they enter the home or neuter almost 15 dogs which will stop accidental pregnancies and reduce the number of unwanted puppies.
Your efforts are helping the Home keep gates open for the lost, stray, and abandoned dogs and cats of Edinburgh and the Lothians. Thank you for supporting the Home in this way.
Here's my top tip of the week - have you seen the Home's digital fundraising pack? 👉 drive.google.com/drive/folders/1YP-aO6EbwnUxHDTapi0Ast_IPAQygVgi 👈 It has a lot of information about the Home, examples of other fundraisers, and tips for your own fundraising. As always, if you have a question or require advice or support from the fundraising team please email hannah@edch.org.uk. Happy fundraising!

It's so great to see the donations continuing to come in! As a total, you've raised 35% of our £2,500 goal is a huge achievement so please give yourself a pat on the back for all your efforts.
I hope you're all enjoying your time outside in preparation for the event at the end of the month. Remember, it's a virtual event so even though it's advertised for the 28 - 29 August you can complete the 9K whenever suits you.
Here's my top tip of the week - have you set your fundraising target yet? Research shows that working towards a target increases donations by 46%! If you've already reached your target, have you thought about increasing it? Luckily, it’s very easy to decrease your target as well so you can always bring it back down if you wish. Happy fundraising :)

August has arrived! Thank you for creating your fundraising pages. It's amazing to be 25% towards our goal of £2,500 already. As a total, you have currently raised enough to give life-saving vaccinations and preventive medication to 36 dogs or feed almost 10 dogs every meal for 3 months! You should be so proud.
If you've not received an email from the Home with personalised fundraising tips and a free digital fundraising pack, please check your junk inbox or feel free to get in touch directly at hannah@edch.org.uk.
Here's my top tip of the week - Share your route with your supporters or, if you haven't decided yet, ask your friends and families what paths they suggest. You'll encourage people to get involved and hopefully, they'll pop you a wee donation as well. Happy fundraising!
