Raising for Hope Community Project (Wolverhampton)
Heath Town Beach will take place on Wednesday 16th, Thursday 17th and Friday 18th August 2023. Children and their families; older residents and residents who had never been to the seaside before; will be able to feel the sand beneath their toes; and the sound of seagulls in the air; without having to travel more than a few 100 yards from their front doors.
91% of the families we support do not have access to a garden as the housing tenure is largely made up of maisonettes and tower blocks. A safe space for children to play is often cited as a priority. Our three day beach installation will bring life to a part of the estate that is quite run down and underused.
Please support us and this event by donating what you can today.
Encouraging people to come together for this event; food; games and celebration will help build bridges between groups; create a sense of unity in the local area and help overcome prejudice and tension in the community.

Hope Community began in 1985 when Sisters of the Infant Jesus moved onto the Heath Town Estate in Wolverhampton. They started knocking on doors and discovered that people were living in fear in their own homes, frightened to come out; they spent their time listening to the stories of the people, to their lives, to the injustices they faced every day and 33 years later, Hope is still listening. Unemployment was above the national average and many people felt forgotten by society, the church and even their own families. By listening to the people, the very desperate needs of families living there were first highlighted. They were joined over the years by many willing volunteers from all over the world.
