About us

We are a separately registered independent branch of the RSPCA, first registered in 1962. Our branch raise our own funds locally to help animals in need within our area. We're run by a committee of volunteers and rely heavily on donations, legacies, fundraising and profits from our two charity shops.

The RSPCA mission is to ensure animals have a good life by rescuing and caring for those in need, by advocating on behalf of all animals and by inspiring everyone to treat them with compassion and respect.

We help local animals in many different ways. Although we rely mainly on our network of foster homes to care for our furry residents, we also have support from neighbouring branches to offer boarding space for those animals who can't go directly to a foster home. We run two financial assistance schemes to help local pet owners with the cost of veterinary care and we help fund care for wildlife that our inspectors collect.

Keeping our wheels on the ground

With rising costs, our vehicles are costing us more to maintain than ever before and we need your help.

Why donate?

  • Without our wheels we can't collect stray, injured or abandoned animals or transport those animals to a place of safety or to receive veterinary care.
  • Without our wheels we can't deliver vital supplies to our foster homes such as food and litter, toys and enrichment items.
  • Without our wheels we won't be able to drop pet food off to our foodbank partners who ensure people and pets in need can receive food parcels when they desperately need it.
  • Without our wheels we can't take our equipment to fundraising events to raise much needed funds and meet our community.

What will we do with your donation?

Donations from our 'wheels on the ground' campaign will go towards the general maintenance for our three branch-owned vehicles and when necessary, funds may be used towards purchases of replacement vehicles.

This will include things like repairs, for example a recent gearbox issue which cost us nearly £650 or a coolant tank replacement which cost us nearly £400. In May 2025 we also need to purchase a replacement vehicle after it suddenly failed and the repairs exceeded the value of the vehicle so funds will be put towards this.

These repairs are required to keep our wheels on the ground and our staff safe whilst out and about.

How does it help animals?

  • Keeping our vehicles in tip-top shape means less time in the garage and more time on the road helping animals.
  • It means our staff can transport animals in a safe and working vehicle without the risk of needing to get to a garage if something goes wrong which could mean we can't reach an animal in need.
  • We use our vehicles to take supplies to our foster homes who are looking after the animals we rescue. They need food, litter and enrichment items to keep these animals happy and nourished while they recover or wait for their new home.
