About us

E3 works with local partners to bring transformation to communities affected by poverty, HIV and AIDS, gender-based violence and COVID-19 in Southern Africa. Our partners understand the challenges and issues first-hand and how to respond in a sustainable way. We empower their leaders through training and financial support to respond to the social issues around them. In particular, E3 helps enable HIV support initiatives, microfinance to improve livelihoods, support for orphaned and vulnerable children to attend school and thrive, and workshops to help stop gender-based violence and support for those affected.

Miles for Malawi

Event dates: Friday 17th June 2022 – Saturday 18th June 2022

Miles for Malawi is a 24hr fundraising walk in aid of a building project in Mpingu, Malawi. In collaboration with Raise The Roof Higher Teen Choir based in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, and E3 Initiative, we seek to raise 24k in 24hrs to build a school which will educate up to 650 children.

Children in the area of Mpingu walk miles per day to access education and are vulnerable to the dangers such a daily journey presents. Girls in particular are at risk of dropping out of school as many are stopped by men along the way. Girls marry as young as 13 years of age because of their culture, a lack of local schools and low aspirations to complete their education and follow a career. Your fundraising efforts will help these girls and children like William (pictured above). He walks 5km to school and back every day in bare feet. He loves learning and dreams of being a doctor. Going to school closer to home will mean he isn’t tired from the long walk and can concentrate better. When it’s colder, it is too far to walk without shoes. By providing local education, William will be able to go to school all year round.

Miles for Malawi is helping to raise the remaining balance required to finish the school this year so that around 650 children can begin education in the new term in January 2023. You may not be a walker or rambler, or in the position where you can complete a 24hr walk, however don’t let that deter you from participating. You may wish to walk just an hour, two or twelve. Wherever you are in the world and however far you choose to walk with us, whether you hike, stroll, waddle, wander or dander, please join us in shortening their walk by raising sponsorship for yours.

Registration for the guided walk event will cost £40pp and we suggest a fundraising target of £500pp. The guided walk will run from 6.30pm on Friday 17th June to 6.30pm on Saturday 18th June and will take place around the Antrim Hills, finishing at Mid Antrim Vineyard, Woodside Industrial Estate, Broughshane. Participants will be welcomed with a BBQ and mini performance from Raise the Roof Higher Teen choir as a thank you for all your fundraising efforts.
