About us
The Uphill Trust supports grass roots education in rural western Uganda: Uphill Junior School, a privately-owned primary school with kindergarten, was founded by a Ugandan teacher in February 2011 and provides educational opportunities for girls, orphans and children from poor rural families.
We are helping the school to build well equipped school buildings, maintain a motivated and well-qualified teaching staff, provide clean water and good sanitation, and support the education of girls and orphans.
When funding is available we also support projects that benefit the wider community, such as provision of mosquito nets, solar lanterns and reading glasses for the community elders.
The Uphill Trust is a zero-overheads charity - 100% of the money you donate is used to support Uphill Junior School.
Education is power!
Musical Instruments Appeal
Music is a key part of education, and at Uphill junior School, they have two very skilled music teachers who give weekly music and dance lessons throughout the school. They would love to have some musical instruments and costumes for their cultural dances and for music at assemblies. At the moment they are using yellow jerry cans for drums.
The kids have a chapel assembly every week which includes everyone singing and they would like a keyboard to accompany these hymns.
A sound system would be invaluable for use in the new hall too as it is a huge space and voices get lost very easily without amplification.
We have already recieved a generous donation to buy a set of Ugandan drums and it would be fantastic if we can also buy a keyboard and a sound system for them all to use, along with costumes for their cultural dances.

Back in 2017 a cultural trainer spent some time at Uphill Junior School. The costumes we funded then are now in tatters and only one drum has survived the hurly burly of school life without an adequate store room (as was the situation at the time). Now instruments and costumes can be kept clean and dry and should last for a long time!
