PSEI (Pakistan Special Education Initiative)

The Pakistan Special Education Initiative (PSEI), funded by the CareTech Foundation, is the result of decades of experience with special needs in the UK.
 
Through extensive work in mental health in Pakistan with the British Asian Trust, the Foundation identified critical gaps. The education system in Pakistan lacks public funding, infrastructure, and expertise necessary to support 2-17-year-olds with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) requirements. Children with SEND need resources to develop similarly to their non-SEND peers, and parents require support and education as well.
 
Following productive discussions with stakeholders in the UK and Pakistan, the PSEI aims to develop a SEND curriculum and train schools and staff to implement it effectively.
 
With your support, we plan to establish partnerships with local educational institutions (charitable and private) to assess students requiring SEND support and evaluate current knowledge among teaching staff in Pakistan.
 
The curriculum will focus on enabling staff to identify and assess children needing SEND support early and provide appropriate management. Training will support mild to moderate needs within mainstream education, while severe cases will require specialist intervention. The SCITT model will deliver training, allowing staff to work and learn through supervised practice.
 
Your support will help us develop and pilot the curriculum, refine it based on feedback, and train teachers and other stakeholders to identify, discuss, and implement effective SEND support measures. Ultimately, we aim for government support to embed the curriculum nationwide.
