Bradford City of Sanctuary are passionate about promoting access and opportunities to asylum seekers across the city. Someone seeking asylum is given approximately £36 a week from the Home Office. This is to cover food, travel, clothes, school equipment - pretty much anything a person might need to lead a safe and healthy life. Bus travel is essential for school, college, court meetings and more, but it currently costs on average around £2.60 per person for a daily bus pass. If a single parent of three children has to make 5 return journeys to school each week; this £36 has already been spent. This Christmas we are asking you to help. 'Ticket to Freedom' is a fundraising campaign to help raise money towards Bus travel for asylum seekers in Bradford. Once raised, this money will be matched by First Bus and Metro, meaning a significant support to the people who need it the most. Once the total funds have been raised, it will be used to purchase as many monthly bus passes as possible, which will then be distributed to local front line Charities across Bradford who will hand them out to the most needy families and individuals that they support. However much you can afford, every single donation can help to make life a little easier for the most vulnerable.
