Unlocking Potential: Empowering Young Readers in Berkshire

At ABC to read, we are dedicated to transforming lives through literacy. Our mission is to ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed by providing personalised reading support and empowering mentorship programmes. To expand our reach and impact, we are launching a fundraising campaign to recruit new volunteers and offer more workshops in schools across Berkshire. Your support can help us change the lives of countless children struggling with reading.

Meet Emma: A Story of Transformation

When Emma first gained support from an ABC to read reading mentor, she was a shy and reserved seven-year-old who struggled with reading. She often felt embarrassed in class and avoided reading out loud, which affected her self-esteem and academic performance. Emma's teacher referred her to our programme, hoping that personalised support could make a difference.
Through our 1-1 reading sessions, Emma was paired with a dedicated volunteer named Sarah. Sarah patiently worked with Emma twice a week, using engaging and tailored reading materials. Over time, Emma's reading skills began to improve. She started to recognize words more easily and read with greater fluency. As Emma's confidence grew, so did her love for reading.
Today, Emma is a confident reader who enjoys sharing stories with her classmates. Her improved literacy skills have not only boosted her academic performance but also raised her self-esteem. Emma's journey from struggling reader to enthusiastic learner is a testament to the power of personalised support and the dedication of our volunteers.

Our Goal

To continue stories like Emma's, we aim to raise £10,000 to fund the recruitment and training of new volunteers and to develop mentorship workshops for older students. These initiatives will enable us to reach more children and provide the support they need to succeed.

How Your Donation Helps

  • Recruit and Train Volunteers: Your donation will help us recruit and train 50 new volunteers who will provide personalised reading support to children like Emma.
  • Develop Mentorship Workshops: Funds will also support the creation of workshops where older students are trained to mentor younger peers, fostering a supportive and collaborative learning environment.
  • Expand Our Reach: With more volunteers and mentorship programmes, we can extend our services to additional schools across Berkshire, impacting hundreds of children.
