At Communities For Horses, we believe in a future where all horses are well cared for, and where their owners can ask for help when they need it. We recognise the value of the bond between horse and owner and acknowledge that people may need extra support if their circumstances change. They should have access to practical advice and support geared towards ensuring their animal's needs are met.
We work to improve equine welfare and relieve animal suffering by providing free-of-charge education and support to horse owners in deprived areas.
We provide welfare advice on a case-by-case basis, coordinate the delivery of veterinary services and offer relevant education programmes.
The tradition of horse ownership remains commonplace in different regions in the UK, despite many of these communities being marginalised and affected by severe deprivation.
Many of the horse owners we work with are under 25 years of age and some have significant special needs. For some of these people, owning a horse is the only source of motivation to keep going or stay away from drugs.
We aim to provide non-judgemental support to these communities, as well as drive positive change by giving horse owners the opportunity to learn, improve their confidence and acquire life skills.
