Yellow Door International Women's Day Fundraiser

March 8th marks International Women’s Day and this year’s focus is to Accelerate Action, emphasising the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality.

In 23/24 Yellow Door supported 3253 women and girls who were impacted by domestic and/or sexual abuse, across our services which include therapy, advocacy and education. The Peer Heroes Project ran by our STAR team was a peer led project of young men to learn about the impact of VAWG (Violence Against Women and Girls) and how to prevent and reduce it in schools. Some outcomes from a Peer Heroes review found:

• The boys who were involved in the project gained more appreciation of what violence against women and girls is and the impact it has on women and girls.
• The boys reported a positive experience from the intervention and felt they would be able to intervene if they witnessed sexual harassment or violence against women and girls outside of their peer group.
• The girls’ focus group enabled their voice and their experiences of sexual harassment in the school to be heard, influencing the project.

At Yellow Door we recognise that abuse can happen to anyone. Donate this International Women’s Day to help us support all ages and genders working towards a world free from abuse.

Your gift could help us to:
• Provide materials for a child’s Art Therapy session
• Pay for a weekly group for teenagers who have experienced domestic violence
• Support a local client to receive specialist counselling
• Fund bus fares to appointments for a client who is struggling financially
• Support a client who has been sexually assaulted to go to court
• Provide support for women who have experienced female genital mutilation
• Help turn our garden into a positive space for clients to enjoy
• Provide advocacy for a young autistic person who has been assaulted
• Provide a fun ‘healthy relationships’ education session for Southampton school children
• Fund a Play Therapy session for a young child
• Pay for a family therapist to work with local families
• Provide a sign language interpreter for deaf clients

Every penny is spent on supporting people in Southampton and surrounding areas to recover from domestic and sexual abuse, and prevent abuse happening to other people. Thank you for your support.
