About us
The Cart and Wagon Shed is a Grade II listed, iron-frame military building constructed in the 1860’s. It sits at the heart of the historic Shoebury Garrison site close to Gunners Park and the Thames Estuary.Our vision is to create a heritage and community centre that is a transforming presence and inspirational hub for heritage interpretation, community activity, local collaboration and volunteering – bringing new life to the local economy and providing a compelling offer for visitors.

Discovering World War II in Southend and the Surrounding Area
Event date: Saturday 3rd May
To mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, the Cart and Wagon Shed will be launching an exhibition in May 2025 highlighting the legacy of the War in Southend and the surrounding area. Accompanying the launch, local history expert Brian Sandford will be presenting an illustrated talk on these themes at 1pm on 3 May 2025.
Brian is Secretary of the Shoebury Society and Managing Director of the Cart and Wagon Shed.
Entry to the event and to the exhibition is free.
