Please Support our Community Ranger Service
Loch Ken Trust is a Scottish Charity formed in 2020 to promote the natural, cultural and recreational assets of the Loch Ken area. One of the main objectives is to advance environmental protection and improvement. We were set up by the community in response to adversity, following the withdrawal of the council- run Ranger Service at Loch Ken back in 2018.
The Loch Ken Plan was launched in 2022, with the ambitious aim of making Loch Ken the first ‘future ready Community’ by achieving all 17 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030
The Loch Ken Trust is responsible for the running of the Loch Ken Ranger Service, one of the first community-led Ranger services in Scotland. The rise in ‘Dirty camping’ incidents kept Loch Ken Ranger Service very busy during 2021/2022. We were pleased to help distribute welcome packs, containing a trowel for digging toilet pits, as well as helpful information leaflets. The packs were well received and helped with our efforts to engage with visitors positively, to explain how to enjoy the area responsibly.
However, we are still seeing far too many incidents of unacceptable behaviour with fires set inside living trees and illegal wildlife trapping, to give just a couple of examples. Overall, Loch Ken Ranger Service responded to over 1000 incidents over the course of 2023.
The Ranger Service also runs an education programme, engaging with our schools and communities to educate them on how to get the most enjoyment out of Loch Ken in a responsible way. This Summer we are holding sessions for 6 of our local schools on the banks of Loch Ken, educating them with engaging activities on how to protect and cherish our natural world.
If Loch Ken is important to you, you can play a vital part by supporting our work, allowing our ranger service to continue to protect our wonderful environment and support our communities for the years to come.
